Counter Terrorism Department (CTD)
The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) is the primary organization in the Kurdistan Region Security Council (KRSC) gathering, analyzing and integrating intelligence on international and domestic terrorism, including activities by extremist groups. It shares intelligence with the KRSC Founding Members to support broader counter-terrorism activities and protect the interests of the Kurdistan Region.
The CTD is the principle advisor to the Chancellor and the leadership of the Kurdistan Region on strategic operational planning, analysis and the application of the available measures in the ongoing counter-terrorism campaign. It provides analytical support to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and plays a prominent role in detecting and disrupting terrorist threats to the Kurdistan Region.The CTD is also tasked with identifying targeting opportunities to support intelligence operations.
The Department was established in 2007 and, since August 2014, has been a leading partner to the U.S.-led Global Coalition in targeting members of the ISIL leadership in Iraq and beyond.
