Masrour Barzani receives Atlantic Council Task Force on Iraq
Masrour Barzani: Kurdistan independence from Iraq is the only option we have not tried to make Iraq work.
Chancellor Masrour Barzani received a high-level delegation from the Atlantic Council Task Force led by former U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Ambassador Ryan Crocker.
The group will provide policy recommendations on the future of Iraq, including the role of the Kurdistan Region and the war on the Islamic State (IS), to the next U.S. administration.
Speaking about the political differences, Chancellor Barzani said, “Baghdad was very subjective in implementing constitutional articles that only served to empower their position.”
The meeting also touched upon lack of trust between Iraq’s ethnic communities, measures to restore confidence and what the future holds for the Kurdistan Region.
“Iraq has never been a stable state for the Kurds. We have been attacked throughout the last century. Independence is the only option we haven’t tried,” he added.
