Chancellor Barzani receives Sudan’s Consul in Erbil

The meeting touched on the need to continue to maintain security, prosperity and stability in the Kurdistan Region. Ismael commended the region’s security services for their efforts in combating terrorism and building an island of stability in the Middle East.

Both parties emphasised the importance of Sudan’s decision to open a Consulate General in the Kurdistan Region as a strong foundation for bilateral ties, including working together to combat terrorism.

On the political developments in the Kurdistan Region and differences over the mechanism to elect a President, Masrour Barzani said: “This parliamentary term was not elected with a mandate to elect a President.”

Both officials noted the ongoing dialogue to resolve differences based on national and security interests. They also discussed shared historical experiences.
