Chancellor Barzani receives UK Parliamentary delegation

The Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region, Masrour Barzani, today received a delegation headed by Rory Stewart, British Member of Parliament (Cumbrian) and Chairman of the Defence Committee.

As part of continued efforts to ensure the Kurdistan Region has the means to combat threats posted by the Islamic State, Masrour Barzani underscored the pressing need for more support from friends and allies, including the United Kingdom.

Masour Barzani referred to the massacres of Ezidis in Shingal and in sounding towns and villages as an act of genocide.

He emphasised on the sacrifices made by the Peshmerga forces (Regional Guards) over the past two months when the Islamic State occupied Mosul and seized advanced weapons. They also touched on the continued support from the international community to the Kurdistan Region, both underling the need for greater cooperation to expel the Islamic State and restore security to the areas.

The delegation also included Nadhim Zahawi MP (Stratford-on-Avon).
