Chancellor Masrour Barzani meets Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi in Baghdad
The Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region Security Council, Mr. Masrour Barzani, met today in Baghdad Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi.
Both officials discussed recent military and political developments in Iraq and the broader region. Prime Minister al-Abadi recognized the sacrifices of Peshmerga Forces in the anti-ISIL campaign. He said that direct support and cooperation from Peshmerga Forces secured significant victories in Mosul for Iraqi Security Forces.
During the meeting they also emphasized the importance of addressing root causes of the conflict to deny space to extremists in the region.
On Erbil-Baghdad issues, both officials reiterated the need for an honest dialogue to address broader differences through peaceful means and a mechanism that respects the aspirations of Iraq’s communities and guarantees a prosperous future rooted in trust and stability for all groups.
Chancellor Barzani was accompanied by Dr. Fuad Hussein, Chief of Staff to the President of the Kurdistan Region.
