Chancellor Masrour Barzani receives separately German Parliamentary and U.S. Congressional delegations

On the margins of the Munich Security Conference yesterday, Chancellor Masrour Barzani met separately with a Parliamentary delegation from Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) led by Wolfgang Hellmich and U.S. Congressional members Elissa Slotkin and Elise Stefanik. With SPD, Chancellor Barzani explained KRG’s reform priorities and improved relations with the Federal Government in Baghdad. He expected further disputes to be settled this year through dialogue. He called on Germany to continue its important mandate in Kurdistan Region and Iraq.

With U.S. congressional members, Chancellor Barzani outlined recent developments in Iraq and the Middle East. He raised concerns about the uncertainty for the Kurdish people in Syria, and the need to avoid security vacuums. In that regard, he underscored ISIL remains a serious threat in Iraq and elsewhere.
