Masrour Barzani receives German Special Envoy for Crisis Prevention and Stabilisation
Chancellor Masrour Barzani today received German Special Envoy for Crisis Prevention and Stabilisation, Ambassador Ekkehard Brose, to discuss recent political and military developments in Iraq and the recent advance into West Mosul.
Both officials emphasised the importance of dialogue between local stakeholders in Mosul to rebuild trust. Chancellor Barzani said, “A political agreement in parallel to the military campaign is necessary still for a roadmap for the day-after.””Political problems that preceded ISIL will resurface after the campaign,” he added. Chancellor Barzani said Baaj and Blej will remain ISIL’s last strongholds in iraq after Mosul.
The meeting also touched on stabilization efforts to restore services for returning families. They discussed Peshmerga sacrifices in the war and Germany’s decisive military support to the Kurdistan Region.
Both officials agreed to remain in dialogue.
