Readout of Chancellor Masrour Barzani’s meeting with US Deputy Assistant Secretary for Iran and Iraq
Chancellor Masrour Barzani today received a delegation led by U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for Iran and Iraq Andrew Peek and discussed a wide range of political and regional developments. Both sides welcomed the resumption of oil exports from Kirkuk through the Kurdistan Region pipeline as an important, symbolic step to building trust and settling Erbil-Baghdad political disputes. During today’s lengthy exchange, Chancellor Barzani and Deputy Assistant Secretary Peek underscored the importance of normalizing the situation in the disputed territories, including reopening roads, demining efforts and restoring basic services. They agreed to chart a new beginning to work together with Iraq’s new government to address the unresolved differences.
